From Frank...
I hope that everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving. Thanks to the generosity of our volunteers, we provided 13 people with home-cooked meals. One of our Village’s four values is “to be there.” In so many ways we try to be there for older adults in our neighborhoods, but yesterday was special because so many took time out of their own holiday to do something for others. With each endeavor we strive to realize our vison of being a supportive neighborhood where older residents thrive.
Over the past few weeks, I asked for our readers’ gratitude list. A few of you took me up on the invitation to share your list and here’s what I received:
· I find I’m rather grateful for the Village.
· The Safe at Home program helped me recently. They provide in-home preventative adaptations to reduce the risk of falls for District residents age 60 and older and adults 18 and over living with disabilities. Examples of adaptations may include but are not limited to handrails, grab bars, bathtub cuts, shower seats, and stair lifts. The staff at the Village are always there to help. They do a great job.
· I’m grateful that I have the character to be grateful. The volunteers do so much to help and I’m sure that it’s meaningful for them too.
Although Thanksgiving is behind us, I’m hoping that we can keep our gratitude going. Somehow it buoys our spirits, perhaps this is especially important as we head into the major holiday season, which can lead to the “holiday blues” for some. So, there’s still time to share what’s on your gratitude list!
The Village is certainly near the very top of my gratitude list. I especially look forward to seeing many of our members or volunteers at our upcoming Holiday Party on December 10th at 2pm at the Broadmoor. It’s always a fun, festive, and special time together. Please register now so that we can get an accurate head count. Members Plus, please let us know soon if you’ll need transportation to attend!
