From Frank...
Thank you for your great response to our Giving Tuesday challenge. Thanks to the generosity of 51 donors, we raised over $10,000, of which $7,500 was matched.
In total, we raised over $17,000, which will allow us to offer new programs, provide subsidized memberships for those with limited incomes, and work to ensure that older adults in our neighborhood get the help and support they need to remain living independently.
Your support makes all of this great work possible!
I also want to encourage you to attend one of the following upcoming events:
Village Holiday Party – on Tuesday, December 10th at 2pm at the Broadmoor, all Village members and volunteers are invited for a festive afternoon together.
Party to Make Gifts for Kids at the Local Shelter – on Thursday, December 12 that 3:30 at the Cleveland House party room, join Village Co-Chairs, Pat Wittie and Sandy Rubin, in making “Friendship Bracelets” for the kids at The Brooks homeless shelter near Cathedral Commons. These bracelets are quite popular among the younger crowd and easy to make! Let’s make a difference together.
Lunch & Learn – on Tuesday, December 17th at noon at the Kennedy-Warren, Village member and volunteer, Jody Beck, will discuss her new book, Your Loving Son, Ty: A World War II Story of Hope and Horror in the Pacific. Bring your lunch and the Village will provide dessert.
Conference Call to Share Favorite Holiday Memories – on Thursday, December 19th at 3pm, join us to reminisce about our holiday experiences. I’ll facilitate the informal discussion. This NEW program is intended to be easy for everyone to participate! We’ve arranged for a simple conference call number to be called to join in. It’s just one number to dial and no fussy pin numbers or access codes. Dial the number and you’re in a conversation with others! Register online to get the conference number or simply call the Village office at 202-615-5853 to get the conference number. Know someone that isn’t online and might enjoy the experience with others? The more the merrier!
Finally, the holiday season, with its fading light until the solstice, is not always a happy time for everyone. Holiday blues is a temporary period of sadness, anxiety, or mental distress that many people experience around the holidays. Here are some tips for dealing with the blues. As a community, let’s work together to help make everyone’s holiday season as bright and joyful as possible.
